----------------------------------------------------------------
The song features Michael taking on the role of someone who would do "anythang" for money, and he sings about the various misdeeds he would commit for more money. In the chorus of the song, he states that he would do "anything - anythang - anything for money; I'd lie for you, die for you, even sell my soul to the devil".
The song itself takes on an open minded view on how greedy society has become and how some people would do almost anything to be rich or to gain money. The song also notes the corruption which money can spawn, Michael singing that "I'll never betray or deceive you my friend but - if you show me the cash then I will take it; If you tell me to cry, then I will fake it; if you give me your hand, then I will shake it; you'd do anything for money". Michael, in persona, also says that "you say you wouldn't do it for all the money in the world - I don't think so", recognizing the inherent flaw of such a phrase. Noticeably, Michael also ends each verse with the phrase "You'd do anything for money".
The main aim of the song is to satirize the lust for material possessions and money, a characteristic which has pervaded Western society. The character Michael plays is actually a stereotypical, yet extremely believable, representation of a Western citizen who's main goal in life is to seek and attain money by any means necessary.
He mentions some rich men such as John Pierpont Morgan, Andrew Carnegie, John Davison Rockefeller, Jean Paul Getty
Lyrics
Money.
Money...
Lie for it
Spy for it
Kill for it
Die for it
So you call it trust
But I say its just
In the devils game
Of greed and lust
They dont care
Theyd do me for the money
They dont care
They use me for the money
So you go to church
Read the holy word
In the scheme of life
Its all absurd
They dont care
Theyd kill for the money
Do or dare
The thrill for the money
Youre saluting the flag
Your country trusts you
Now youre wearing a badge
Youre called the just few
And youre fighting the wars
A soldier must do
Ill never betray or deceive you my friend but...
If you show me the cash
Then I will take it
If you tell me to cry
Then I will fake it
If you give me a hand
Then I will shake it
You do anything for money...
Anything
Anything
Anything for money
Would lie for you
Would die for you
Even sell my soul to the devil
Anything
Anything
Anything for money
Would lie for you
Would die for you
Even sell my soul to the devil
Insurance?
Where do your loyalties lie?
Is that your alibi?
I dont think so
You dont care
Youd do her for the money
Say its fair
You sue her for the money
Want your pot of gold
Need the midas touch
Bet you sell your soul
Cuz your God is such
You dont care
You kill for the money
Do or dare
The thrill for the money
Are you infected with the same disease of lust, gluttoney and greed?
Then watch the ones
With the biggest smiles
The idle jabbers...
Cuz theyre the backstabbers
If you know its a lie
Then you will swear it
If you give it with guilt
Then you will bear it
If its taking a chance
Then you will dare it
You do anything for money...
Anything
Anything
Anything for money
Would lie for you
Would die for you
Even sell my soul to the devil
Anything
Anything
Anything for money
Would lie for you
Would die for you
Even sell my soul to the devil
Anything
Anything
Anything for money
Would lie for you
Would die for you
Even sell my soul to the devil
Anything
Anything
Anything for money
Would lie for you
Would die for you
Even sell my soul to the devil
You say you wouldnt do it
For all the money in the world
I dont think so
If you show me the man
Then I will sell him
If you ask me to lie
Then I will tell him
If youre stealing with god
Then you will hell him
You do anything for money
Anything
Anything
Anything for money
Would lie for you
Would die for you
Even sell my soul to the devil
(repeat 8 times)

D.S. (Dom Sheldon)
History Album | Videos from History
--------------------------------------------------------
"D.S." is a song by Michael Jackson from his 1995 HIStory double album. It is track six on the second disc, one of the three songs from that disc whose lyrics are printed in the lyric booklet, and is four minutes and forty-nine seconds in length.
Many believe that this song refers to Thomas W. Sneddon Jr. as when sung, "Dom Sheldon" sounds very close to "Tom Sneddon". In addition, the lyrics reference a "B.S.T.A.", which sounds similar to "S.B.D.A." or "Santa Barbara District Attorney".
In 1993 the father of a boy named Jordan Chandler accused Michael Jackson of child molestation. The media reported on this news constantly and damaged Michael Jackson's career. Thomas Sneddon is the district attorney of Santa Barbara County, California who prosecuted Michael Jackson twice, in 1993 and in 2005. The second set of charges against Jackson resulted in a long trial, which ultimately ended in Jackson being acquitted.
Song Style
The song has a distinct rock feel to it, with a guitar solo performed by former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, who had previously worked with Jackson on his Dangerous album. Before the gutair solo in the song, Jackson screams the name "Slash!"- leading to Slash's part in the song.
Jackson has always included a rock track on each album since the success of "Beat It" from Thriller. Other 'rock' songs of his include; "Beat It", "Dirty Diana", "Give in to Me", "Morphine" and "Privacy".
Lyrics
They wanna get my ass
Dead or alive
You know he really tried to take me
Down by surprise
I bet he missioned with the CIA
He don't do half what he say
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
He out shock in every single way
He'll stop at nothing just to get his political say
He think he hot cause he's BSTA
I bet he never had a social life anyway
You think he brother with the KKK?
I bet his mother never taught him
Right anyway
He want your vote just to remain ta.
He don't do half what he say
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Thomas Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Does he send letters to the FBI?
Did he say to either do it or die?
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Thomas Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man
Dom Sheldon is a cold man

Earth Song
Earth Song Video | History Album | Videos from History
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Earth Song" is a song by Michael Jackson featured on Jackson's 1995 HIStory album. The song's music video depicts the Earth being destroyed by humans, and alludes to environmental and poverty issues in the world. The visuals present the destruction of rainforests by loggers, majestic animals killed by poachers, and a North American forest burnt to stumps. The video also shows the devastation of 1990s aggressions between Bosnia and Bosniaks returning to their shattered homes. The video's scene was recorded in Croatia, due to instability in Bosnia at the time. The video includes stock footage of the Serb army shelling of Bosnian villages. In the end, Michael and all the suffering native peoples depicted cry, kneel, and dig into the dirt, which magically triggers the world to swirl backwards in time, returning everything to its original, peaceful state.
Chart Performance
When it was released in December of 1995, it debuted at number #1 in the United Kingdom, where it remained for the next 6 consecutive weeks, becoming the Christmas number one single of 1995, and the first #1 of 1996. It would become Jackson's most successful single release in the United Kingdom to date, achieving sales in excess of 1 million there, and remained on the U.K single's chart for 19 weeks in total. The single sold over 3 million copies world-wide.
Other Information
However, many critics considered both the song and the video to be pompous and overbearing, a charge repeated by Jarvis Cocker as a partial explanation for his invasion of Jackson's stage during a performance of "Earth Song" at the 1996 BRIT Awards, in which three children were injured. Fans said that the critics failed to fully read the lyrics of the song, or look at the video more closely. They point out there were no indications of a "messiah complex" that some critics claimed, and in the video, Jackson represented himself as a mendicant who prays for a better tomorrow, along with the nations of the world. The posture adopted by Jackson while performing this song at the BRIT Awards in fact originated in the video to his earlier single, "Will You Be There". The "Earth Song" video is available on the DVDs HIStory On Film Volume II and Number Ones. It was nominated for a 1996 Grammy for Best Short Form Video.

What about sunrise
What about rain
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain...
What about killing fields
Is there a time
What about all the things
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood weve shed before
Did you ever stop this notice
This crying earth this we make sure?
Aaaaaaaaaah aaaaaaaaaah
What have we done to the world
Look what weve done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son...
What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop to notice
This crying earth this we make sure?
Aaaaaaaaaaah aaaaaaaaaaah
I used to dream
I used to glance beyond the stars
Now I dont know where we are
Although I know weve drifted far
Aaaaaaaaaaah aaaaaaaaaaaah
Aaaaaaaaaaah aaaaaaaaaaaah
Hey, what about yesterday
(what about us)
What about the seas
(what about us)
The heavens are falling down
(what about us)
I cant even breathe
(what about us)
What about everything
(what about us)
I have given you
(what about us)
What about natures worth
(ooo,ooo)
Its our planets womb
(what about us)
What about animals
(what about it)
Weve turned kingdoms to dust
(what about us)
What about elephants
(what about us)
Have we lost their trust
(what about us)
What about crying whales
(what about us)
Were ravaging the seas
(what about us)
What about forest trails
(ooo, ooo)
Burnt despite our pleas
(what about us)
What about the holy land
(what about it)
Torn apart by creed
(what about us)
What about the common man
(what about us)
Cant we set him free
(what about us)
What about children dying
(what about us)
Cant you hear them cry
(what about us)
Where do we go wrong
(ooo, ooo)
Someone tell me why
(what about us)
What about baby boy
(what about it)
What about the days
(what about us)
What about all their joy
(what about us)
What about the men
(what about us)
What about the crying man
(what about us)
What about abraham
(what was us)
What about death again
(ooo, ooo)
Do we give a damn

Stranger In Moscow
Stranger In Moscow Video | History Album | Videos from History
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stranger in Moscow was written in 1993 during Jackson's Dangerous World Tour in Moscow. He mentions that outside his hotel room, all he could see was "a sea of faces of fans chanting and screaming" and that he felt "all alone", like he was "the last person on the planet". It was this particular instance (on that particular day) that Stranger in Moscow came together.
The song's music video shows Jackson walking down a street while everything except himself and other primary subjects are moving in slow motion. Jackson's songwriter in his early career Rod Temperton, believes this is his best song.
Chart Performance
The single was a success in Europe, reaching the top of the charts in Spain, Italy and #4 in the UK, where it stayed in the top 40 for five weeks during the Christmas period. It was the least successful single release from the HIStory - Past, Present and Future, Book I album, but maintained the trend of continuous top 5 hits in the UK, where the album proved to be Jackson's most successful singles album to date.
Due to the remixes made for the song it reached #1 in the UK Dance Chart (staying at the top for 5 weeks), #1 in the UK Club Chart, and #1 on the official Euro DJ's chart. This meant that it was Jackson's biggest club hit and one of the biggest club hits from a mainstream commercial artist.
It also performed well in many other European countries, peaking at #5 in Switzerland and #9 in Denmark. It also peaked at #6 in New Zealand and at #14 in Australia. However, in the USA it flopped, reaching only #91.

Lyrics
I was wandering in the rain
Mask of life, feelin insane
Swift and sudden fall from grace
Sunny days seem far away
Kremlins shadow belittlin me
Stalins tomb wont let me be
On and on and on it came
Wish the rain would just let me
How does it feel (how does it feel)
How does it feel
How does it feel
When youre alone
And youre cold inside
Here abandoned in my fame
Armageddon of the brain
Kgb was doggin me
Take my name and just let me be
Then a begger boy called my name
Happy days will drown the pain
On and on and on it came
And again, and again, and again...
Take my name and just let me be
How does it feel (how does it feel)
How does it feel
How does it feel
How does it feel
How does it feel (how does it feel now)
How does it feel
How does it feel
When youre alone
And youre cold inside
How does it feel (how does it feel)
How does it feel
How does it feel
How does it feel
How does it feel (how does it feel now)
How does it feel
How does it feel
When youre alone
And youre cold inside
Like stranger in moscow
Like stranger in moscow
Were talkin danger
Were talkin danger, baby
Like stranger in moscow
Were talkin danger
Were talkin danger, baby
Like stranger in moscow
Im livin lonely
Im livin lonely, baby

How does it feel (how does it feel)
How does it feel
How does it feel
How does it feel
How does it feel (how does it feel now)
How does it feel
How does it feel
When youre alone
And youre cold inside
Like stranger in moscow
Like stranger in moscow
Were talkin danger
Were talkin danger, baby
Like stranger in moscow
Were talkin danger
Were talkin danger, baby
Like stranger in moscow
Im livin lonely
Im livin lonely, baby
Stranger in moscow
